‘SSC to chart new direction for Sarawak’

KUCHING: The establishment of the Sarawak Sports Corporation (SSC) will move sports in the state towards a new direction and facilitate a smoother preparation for the upcoming 18th Malaysian Games (Sukma).

This was the assurance given by Social Development Minister Tan Sri William Mawan who is also minister in charge of sports in Sarawak.

SSC board members, he added, will meet up frequently to oversee the management of the corporation in such areas as sports performances and financial aspects.

“SSC has its organisational structure formed, functions and roles defined. The scopes will cover the management and maintenance of the sports complexes throughout Sarawak and actions plans which are in accordance to strategic themes and objectives will be implemented in stages,” he said in a SCC press statement made available yesterday.

SSC held its first board meeting on Jan 6 at the conference room of Stadium Negeri in Petra Jaya here. This followed Mawan’s earlier announcement that the operations of the SSC took effect on Jan 1 this year.

The inaugural board meeting, chaired by Mawan. was also attended by deputy chairman I Datuk Lee Kim Shin, deputy chairman II Kameri Affandi, secretary Dr Ong Kong Swee and members Dato Patrick Liew, Sunny P.H Si, Muhd Haneef Ali, Haris Ishak, Ambrose Jarit, Nicholas Sia and Dayang Joanita Azizah Abang Morshidi.
