KUCHING: Two men were sentenced to 13 years’ jail and four lashes for robbery in the Sessions Court here.

Judge Dayang Ellyn Narisa Abang Ahmad imposed the sentences on Then Seng Huat, 49, and Then Tet Khien, 45, after finding them guilty of two amended robbery charges.

The two (not related) were both sentenced to 13 years in jail and two lashes for each of the two charges. Their custodial sentence was to run concurrently.

The first charge was for entering the house at Jalan Kuap and taking away the properties of the house owner, while the second charge for robbing the foreign maid and taking away her mobile phone after tying her legs and hands.

The duo was convicted under Section 395 of the Penal Code for the offences committed around 5.30pm on Feb 2 last year.

Initially there was a third accused, Tan Lung Eh, on whom a warrant of arrest was issued on Jan 25 this year.

But he failed to turn up in court so his cash bail was revoked on Monday.

The applications for stay of execution for Seng Huat and Tet Khien were denied.
