KUCHING: The impasse between Sarawak United People’s Party(SUPP) and Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party (SPDP) and their respective splinter parties United People’s Party (UPP) and Parti Tenaga Rakyat Sarawak (Teras) will be resolved before nomination day.

State BN chairman and Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem said “the matter will be resolved one way or another before nomination day” when met by reporters here yesterday.

“But as far as PBB (Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu) is concerned, we have decided on the majority of seats,” said Adenan, who is also president of PBB after opening 1Azam Carnival ‘End the Age of Poverty’ at Kubah Ria Complex here.

Adenan reaffirmed that PBB would be contesting in 40 state constituencies including five out of the 11 new seats come the election.

Prior to the function yesterday, he had already issued a statement about the party fielding 40 candidates.

“And I believe PRS (Parti Rakyat Sarawak) has already more or less decided their list of candidates.”

When asked whether ‘the balance will be among the four parties’, Adenan replied in the affirmative indicating that UPP and Teras could be allocated one of the new seats.

On a separate issue, Adenan said he hoped Putrajaya would not reduce the allocations for development during the budget review.

He said the prime minister did not mention about any cut in development expenditure.

“Well, we hope there will be no cut in the development expenditure.”

Among those present at the carnival were Adenan’s wife Datin Patinggi Dato Jamilah Anu and Minister of Welfare, Women and Family Development Datuk Fatimah Abdullah.
