SIBU: Minister of Local Government and Community Development Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh yesterday gave RM7,000 and 462 pieces of roof tiles to the residents of Rumah Lidwina Mathew, Nanga Tutus in Batang Igan which was razed by fire recently.

Wong, who is Bawang Assan assemblyman, was represented by political secretary to the chief minister Andrew Shilling Banggit at the presentation.

The donations were received by Tuai Rumah Lidwina in a simple ceremony, witnessed by Penghulu Jeffery Sut and members of United People’s Party (UPP) Bawang Assan Bumiputera Unit.

Later, Andrew joined others to clear the site of the razed longhouse.

The fire that occurred around 7pm on Dec 10 last year destroyed 14 doors of the 21-door Rumah Lidwina.

Immediately after the fire, Wong gave the fire victims cash relief totalling RM11,200.

Meanwhile, Andrew in presenting the aid yesterday said UPP Bawang Assan was ready to assist those who had problems in applying for housing loans offered by the government.

“You may come to our office, and we’ll see how we can assist you in the application,” he said.
