KUCHING: The meeting between Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak in Putrajaya yesterday over the devolution of power to the state yielded positive results.According to sources, Najib has agreed in principle to several of the state government’s requests.

The sources added that State Secretary Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Morshidi Ghani, who accompanied Adenan to the meeting, will be tasked to draft the document to formalise the agreement.

“The meeting between the Chief Minister and our Prime Minister has yielded positive outcome. He (Adenan) will make the announcement upon his return to Kuching,” the source told The Borneo Post when contacted.

Adenan is scheduled to return here today and expected to hold a press conference on his meeting with Najib soon.

Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Dr Ali Hamsa and Attorney-General Tan Sri Mohamed Apandi Ali were among those present at the meeting.

Meanwhile, Bernama reported that the Chief Minister’s official vehicle entered Bangunan Perdana Putra at 4pm and left about two hours later.

It also reported that a group of journalists waited outside the perimeter of the building to get a statement from Adenan but their effort was in vain as the vehicle carrying the chief minister did not stop despite being surrounded.

When opening the Sejiwa Senada 2016 Programme in Sibu last Saturday, Adenan announced that he would meet up with Najib to settle matters on the devolution of power to the state government. He said the state government wanted the administrative powers taken from it by the federal government to be returned.

Najib, during his visit here in June last year, said he was in talks with the chief minister on how the devolution of powers could be implemented in the state as it was time for certain powers to be transferred to the state government’s departments.
