KAPIT: Parents should not give their children expensive handphones if they cannot afford the devices.

Hulu Rajang Member of Parliament Datuk Wilson Ugak Kumbong said children only needed basic handphones as a means of communication.

“Please stop spoiling your children. Whatever they ask for you give and to the extent of owing handphone shops thousands of ringgit. Stop it now. Handphones are for ease of communicating with one another and not to show off,” he said when presenting minor rural project (MRP) grants totalling RM240,000 to 24 organisations.

“Children with very advanced handphones, if they don’t use them properly, they will only poison their minds because they can receive all sorts of information on sex, violence, brutality and false information. This is bad for the youngsters.”

He said children should concentrate on their studies instead of playing on handphones.

Meanwhile, he called on Sungai Sut and Mujong folk to support the Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate for Pelagus.

“This time around we must wrest back the seat from the opposition to ensure uninterrupted development,” he said.
