JELI: Kelantan police are tightening control at the Malaysian-Thai border areas to prevent various criminal activities including the entry of foreigners involved in the Daesh terrorist group.

Kelantan police chief Datuk Mazlan Lazim said police would be mobilising the cooperation of other enforcement agencies

such as the Immigration Department, Customs Department and the Malaysian Armed Forces to conduct continuous operations.

“We will tighten control at the border through operations to stamp out drugs and firearms smuggling, human trafficking and entry of IS (Daesh) terrorists into the country,” he told a press conference at the Customs, Immigration and Quarantine Complex here yesterday.

Mazlan said police would close all gaps and holes along the border from being used by criminals including terrorist groups to carry out their activities.

He said security forces on duty at the border area would be beefed up to ensure that security at the country’s border areas were under control. — Bernama
