What it takes to gain recognition in an organisation

0

NEWCOMERS to any organisation must ensure that their strengths and abilities are seen by their leaders, so that they can stand out and gain recognition. Here are some ways to ensure you get such recognition.
Time management
Nobody likes to wait for anyone and so do cultivate the habit of being punctual. When you are able to turn up at the expected time or earlier, it will leave an impression that you are reliable and can be entrusted with great responsibility.
Respect company culture and regulations
Ensure that you abide by the company’s rules and regulations and respect company culture to minimise unpleasantness in the workplace. Do not cause unnecessary stress and trouble to others by challenging the regulations.
Be energetic
Ensure that you get enough rest so that you are always energetic at the workplace. Make sure you always look fresh and ready to take on any task entrusted to you. Avoid an unhealthy lifestyle that causes you to be lethargic all the time.
Good image
Always maintain a neat and clean image. It may sound trivial, but make sure that your breath is fresh all the time.

Be serious when carrying out your work. Do not let others feel that you are not serious about your job.
No mixing business with pleasure
Do not bring personal matters to the workplace. Avoid making personal phone calls during office hours or discuss with your colleagues where to have fun after office hours. Keep your personal or fun time outside of your workplace to maintain a professional image.
Clean workspace
Ensure that your workspace is always clean and tidy. If your workspace is messy, it will be hard for you to locate the documents you need. Other than that, your co-workers will feel you are disorganised if you leave things lying around. A clean and neat workspace will signal to your superiors that you are systematic and can be entrusted with more responsibilities.
Know your work well
Ensure that you know the scope of your work well so that what you produce is always of high quality. It would be even better if you know how your work links with that of other departments.

This will give you the knowledge of from whom and where to get resources. You can also arrange your work in a way that you are able to produce the desired results others need.
Harmonious relationships
Maintain good relationships with all your colleagues. Do not play office politics and avoid being in a clique.

Have harmonious relationships with everyone as much as possible. Even if you do not like some colleagues, do ensure you are courteous towards them.
Know when to keep quiet
It is good to contribute ideas and take part in discussions. However, when you have nothing constructive or important to say, it is better to keep quiet and just listen.

Do not utter something that is irrelevant or repetitive just to make others feel your presence. Also you should remember never to raise your voice at anyone. Politeness is the key to pleasant conversations.
Enthusiasm
Always be keen to take on any task and show your eagerness to learn. You may lack experience but do not be afraid when you are asked to take on some difficult tasks. You can always ask for help or advice from senior colleagues.
Keep away from gossip
Keeping away from company gossip is one way to ensure you do not end up stepping on anyone’s toes. Gossip is usually something unsupported. Why would you want to waste your time on this kind of non-constructive activity? It is better to spend your time getting your work done and thinking of better ways to improve your work quality.
