BINTANGOR: Four members of a family lost their lives when the car they were travelling in collided with a trailer truck at KM12 Jalan Bintangor–Sibu, yesterday.
District police chief DSP Mohamad Hafipi Mohd Salim said when contacted that the incident happened around 5.45 pm near Simpang Sing Ba.
The deceased have been identified as Wong Ching Chiang, 22, who was driving the Proton Saga car; Wong Ching Soon, 15, who was in the front seat; and backseat passengers Henry Ling Jun Hong, 15, and Su Kee Chuo, 65.
Another passenger, Kerry Ling Chen Yu, 11, sustained serious injuries.
The trailer truck driver and attendant, both aged 28, were unhurt.
The family were on their way to Sibu when Ching Chiang was believed to have lost control of the car and crashed into the truck in the opposite lane.
Seven Fire and Rescue personnel led by their officer Chua Thien Tiong managed to extricate the victims by 7 pm.
The dead and injured were brought to Sarikei Hospital.– BERNAMA
