KUCHING: Sarawak’s swimming squad are optimistic of a golden flourish at the National Paralympic Games to be hosted by the state from Aug 2-9.

According to team manager Hadiah Ramli, in line with that target, they have already carried out several programmes including naming a list of swimmers who competed at the last edition in Perlis two years ago.

“We are determined to ensure that swimming will contribute the most medals to the state contingent in the coming Games. I am confident our swimmers can realise their mission through their experience and having the home ground advantage,” said Hadiah.

At the Perlis National Paralympic Games in 2014, Sarawak captured 42 gold, 19 silver and 10 bronze medals to be crowned as the overall champions for the 11th consecutive time since 1994.

Based on that excellent achievement, Hadiah feels that it is not impossible for the state contingent to reap more medals in their own backyard.

Sarawak will be fielding a very strong squad of about 35 swimmers powered by six national swimmers Jamery Siga, Jeffery Noel, Julius Jeranding, Fraiden Dawan, Anderson Jamba and Ting Jin Ping.

“The six swimmers concerned are now training with the national squad in Kuala Lumpur while the rest are training at their respective centres in the state,” said Hadiah.

She added that there are several new faces in the S14 category who will be roped into the state squad later.

The state swimming squad are trained by chief coach Sarini @ Sarbini Kaderi and coaches Mohd Ali Seman, Ahmad Zafri Maula, Ahmad Nazri and Eddy Yusuf Saini.
