PM visits Batang Sadong bridge project site

SADONG JAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak yesterday continued his working visit to the state by calling at the Batang Sadong Bridge project site.

Accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Alfred Jabu, he was briefed by Public Works Department, Southern Regional Office regional manager Vincent Tang Chok Khing on the RM211 million project which was 91 per cent completed.

Sadong MP, state Land Development Minister Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Masing, Sadong Jaya assemblyman Aidel Lariwoo and Sebuyau assemblyman Datuk Julaihi Narawi.

The bridge across the Sadong river would shorten the distance and travelling time for residents, besides easing transport of agricultural produce to Kuching for farmers in the surrounding area.

Construction of the 1.48 kilometre bridge which would be the longest in the state started in July 2012 and is scheduled for completion in August this year.

The allocation for the bridge was approved by Najib during the state election campaign in 2011.

After visiting the site, the prime minister left for Kuching before heading to Bintulu to attend a ‘Pemimpin Bersama Rakyat’ event at Dewan Suarah Bintulu. — Bernama
