KOTA MARUDU: The federal government has allocated RM1.56 billion for various rural development projects in Sabah this year, said Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

He said the allocation was part of the overall allocation of RM5.45 billion earmarked for rural development nationwide.

The rural projects include electricity and water supply, village roads and affordable housing.

Ismail said the allocation, which was 28.8% of the total, proved that the federal government was concerned about and sensitive to the needs of Sabahans.

The large allocation for Sabah proved the federal government was always attentive to the development of rural communities in the state, he said during a meet-the-people event at the Kampung Tinangol longhouse in Kota Marudu yesterday.

During the gathering, Ismail Sabri also announced several allocations, including for building a 26-door Tinangol longhouse at a cost of RM1.8 million.

“I also announced a RM500,000 allocation for the construction of a Matunggong town church and aid for the building of eight units of affordable housing under the Housing Assistance Program (PBR) for eight victims here.

“In addition, 42 PBR units will be built in Kota Marudu, bringing the total number of affordable houses here to 50 units,” he said.

Ismail Sabri also approved a RM7.96 million allocation for upgrading the Minikodong Road.

Craft entrepreneurs in Kampung Tinangol also received a RM30,000 allocation and Kampung Tinangol
