KUCHING: Voters in Murum and Belaga have expressed their displeasure upon hearing news that Murum has been allocated to Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS).

PBB Murum (Tubau and Sungai Asap areas) and PBB Belaga branch members comprising village chiefs Buli Nyaring, Amba, Wan Using, Elison Duren as well as Jarau Ubung, Ngilah Jok, Ugup, Jana, Baling Duren, Usang Kalang and Jinun Lupak in a joint statement on Monday said the decision was made as though the views of the local people were not of concern to Barisan Nasional (BN) leaders.

According to them, when they were previously asked to comment on the matter, both branches kept mum because there were many occasions when they requested for a candidate from PBB to be placed at Murum but were ignored by BN leaders.

Nevertheless, they are still hopeful that Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem and other leaders would personally go on the ground to meet the people particularly those at Sungai Asap/Koyan resettlement areas.

“Voters from Sungai Asap/Koyan, Belaga town, Tubau, Jelalong and other Penan areas such as Long Urun will be there (on the ground) to voice their hopes and opinions to the leaders,” said their spokesperson.

He said Sungai Asap/Koyan had been proposed as the venue as the majority of voters numbering 4,800 out of 7,648 voters in the constituency came from the areas.

“For the record, PBB voters from Tubau stand at 2,400; thus making the Kayan community as the biggest group under Murum.”

The spokesperson also said that PBB Belaga and Murum branches had always done their best to win the hearts of voters based on past elections; tirelessly campaigning to ensure the victory of BN in Belaga, as well as in Ulu Rajang parliamentary constituency.

“This time, many unsatisfied voters will be unafraid to voice their dissatisfaction through the ballot boxes later. Many PBB voters are already disappointed and they will no doubt vote in protest.

“In Kapit, PRS already has Hulu Rajang (parliament) and the state constituencies of Baleh, Pelagus and Belaga. Now, they also want Murum which should rightfully be given to PBB to ensure a BN win,” the spokesman added.
