MIRI: Deputy president of Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party (SPDP) Anyi Ngau tells the people in his constituency that there are only four Barisan Nasional component parties in the state who can file candidates for the coming election.

He said SPDP was one of them which could nominate a potential candidate to bring development to the people in the rural area when elected.

“SPDP is among four BN component parties tasked to bring developement to this rural area (Baram) and not non-BN parties.

“As the people’s representative (MP) in Baram the new seat of Mulu which, together with Telang Usan, which come under Baram parliamentary constituency should rightfuly be given to SPDP to contest in,” he said at the ‘leader with the people’ session in Lio Mato recently.

It was attended by about 300 people from the village as well as those from neighbouring Long Tungan and Long Semiyang. The headman of Lio Matu, Peter Edam, who is also SPDP Miri treasurer as well as SPDP Pujut chairman Henry Colin Belawing were also present.

Anyi said SPDP already had a potential candidate for Mulu should the seat be given to the party.

“He is non other than SPDP senior vice-president Dr Roland Dom Mattu, who is the pro tem chairman of SPDP N 78 Mulu.

“He is a Kelabit from Bario who can represent the Orang Ulu and become the voice of the people,” he said.

Dr Roland also spoke at the function. He said native customary right (NCR) land would be his main agenda in helping people in the rural area, apart from wanting better roads.

He said if given the mandate, he would be committed to serve the people and voice the needs of the rural folks.

Dr Roland who came to Lio Mato area by 4WD from Miri last week was appalled by the poor road condition which the local people had to endure daily.

“The representative chosen later must walk the talk and know the feeling of these rural folks, who use this challenging timber road daily,” he said,

He said he planned to visit Long Banga after the Chinese New Year celebration.
