KOTA KINABALU: Police are looking for a local man who allegedly stole RM80,000 from his employer about a week ago.

Amli Amjan @ Andrew, 31, is wanted by the police for allegedly stealing from his employer on February 4.

City police chief ACP M. Chandra said the incident happened between 8am and noon last Thursday when a 34-year-old businessman lost RM80,000 that was kept inside his sling bag.

“According to a police report, the victim had left the sling bag containing money in his vehicle and instructed his driver to return to the office in Kolombong as he was having breakfast with friends.

“After breakfast, the victim attended a meeting and only returned to the office around noon where he realised the driver was not around.

“The victim then called his driver several times but there was no answer.

“Then he went home and found his vehicle in the garage and the sling bag in the vehicle.

“However, upon checking the bag, the victim and RM80,000 cash were missing.

“The victim immediately lodged a police report the same day,” he said.

Chandra said a manhunt had been launched for the suspect and urged anyone with information pertaining to the case to contact Inspector Ahmad Zulfairie at 013-261 8487 or any nearest police station.

The case is currently being investigated under Section 381 of the Penal Code for stealing from employer which carries a jail term of up to seven years and also liable to a fine on conviction.
