SIBU: Residents of Jalan Oya Lama, Lane 22 Ing Sang Road are having sleepless nights due to a section of the road leading to their houses being submerged.

They have to traverse about 200 to 300metres of the 2-km road in waters up to three or fourfeet deep.

One of the residents, who called thesundaypost, said the fluid situation had been like that a day before Chinese New Year eve (Feb 7).

“Until now, the road remained impassable to motor vehicles, rendering grave inconvenience to more than 100 people who use the road during the Chinese New Year celebration,” he added.

With schools due to re-open tomorrow, the residents said it meant an even bigger worry for the school children living in the vicinity.

“Hopefully, the relevant authority will move in to help us,” said the resident who blames it on drainage which the relevant authorities failed to look onto.

He said floods would hit two or three times each year, especially after heavy downpour.

“When the water collects, it would take several weeks before the road can dry up as there is simply no outlet for water to flow off,” he said.

In the past, the resident claimed the authorities did upgrade the road but it continued to sink due to the swampy nature of the land.

“More upgrading works need to be done to improve the situation,’ he added.
