KUCHING: The phenomenon of roadside stalls decked out with cute plush toys and bouquets of flowers lends high romance to the wet spell of February, and culminating in Valentine’s Day which is today.

This year is no exception with roadside tents springing up to sell various plush toys, mostly cuddly teddy bears in sizes ranging from small to life-size.

Another common sight for Valentine’s Day is, of course, fresh flowers, especially the inevitable roses, for lovers to snap up while on the move from these enterprising roadside stalls.

Some see it as an opportunity for youths to get into business for some extra money during this period of openly romantic declarations.

A 20-something Lucas said he would embrace a gift before heading home on Valentine’s Day as an expression of love for his wife.

“I have been doing this since we were dating. Normally, we will go for a nice dinner on the night of Valentine’s Day.”
