SEBUYAU: The people living in coastal areas of the state are advised to equip themselves and prepare for the economic opportunities that will come with the construction of the proposed Batang Lupar bridge.

Assistant Minister of Rural Development Datuk Julaihi Narawi said the construction of the bridge would bring greater economic activities in the coastal areas, which the people must tap into.

“The construction of the bridge (Batang Lupar) will definitely transform coastal areas of the state, bring economic activities so the people living in these coastal areas must be prepared to participate in the economic opportunities and not becoming mere spectators,” Julaihi said on Friday.

He was presenting living allowance amounting to RM174,600 to 584 fishermen from Sebuyau constituency at Dewan Pembangunan Sebuyau, here.

Julaihi, who is also Assistant Minister of Industrial Development (Investment and Promotion) urged fishermen in the area to give strong mandate to Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem and the team to continue with the development agenda and the Go Rural Policy.

“All fishermen and the people in rural areas ought to give a very strong mandate to our Chief Minister who will be leading the state BN to the upcoming state election.

“This is a golden opportunity for the people living in rural areas and such opportunity must be taken by supporting BN,” the Sebuyau assemblyman pointed out.

On the aid, Julaihi said it was a continuous initiative of the government to help fishermen in the state to improve their living standard.

Present were Sebuyau sub district Sarawak Administrative Officer Ajis Ahmad, Malaysian Fisheries Development Authority (LKIM) state assistant director Mohd Rizal, LKIM Sarawak regional officer Abg Safri and Sebuyau Area Fishermen Association representative Cr Kaderi Abang Rauf.
