MIRI: Women in this era need to be resilient, self-reliant, educated and be daring to move forward.
PRS Women chief Senator Dato Sri Doris Brodie said it is no longer a choice but a must for women in Malaysia to participate in nation building because they constitute 49 per cent of the country’s population of approximately 30 million.
“Failing which, our country will be half ‘defunct’,” she said when officiating at a seminar organised by Wanita PRS for women voters from Samalaju at Li Hua Hotel, Bintulu yesterday.
According to Doris, education and general awareness are amongst the most important tools for women to be able to participate effectively in nation building.
She also said society and the government must emphasise on gender equality and must be seen to be inclusive. Besides that, government policies that expound on gender equality must be adhered to, she added.
On the local context, Doris stressed on the importance of women working together to consolidate support for the BN candidate for Samalaju constituency.
‘Sarawakians must see the big picture, the coming state election is not about choosing a government but choosing a leader for all Sarawakians who is able and capable to lead Sarawak and Sarawakians in the context of Malaysia under the already
in-place BN government,” she said.
She described Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem as the leader that Sarawakians need.
“It is therefore imperative for all Sarawakians regardless of gender and divides to come together to give the mandate to Adenan in the coming state election to lead us again for the next five years,” the deputy president of Senate exhorted.
She said electing a BN candidate in Samalaju “means electing Adenan to be our CM again in Sarawak”.
Present were political secretary to the chief minister Angeline Umih and deputy PRS Women chief Nuai Gema, who both
spoke at the function, and another political secretary to the chief minister, Majang Reggie.
About 200 women from Samalaju constituency attended the seminar.
