MIRI: The Miri City Council (MCC) is calling on organisations here to hold activities in May to promote Miri as a vibrant and green resort city.

Miri Mayor Lawrence Lai said this is part of efforts to promote tourism in conjunction with the Miri May Fest and 11th Miri City Day.

“All the programmes will be included in the Miri May Fest 2016 Calendar of Events,” Lai told a press conference yesterday.

He said MCC will publish the calendar of events by the end of next month, with priority given to events that fulfil the objective of promoting Miri including public participation, cultural and arts, sports, youth-oriented, musical, dancing and singing events, charity food fairs and trade fairs.

MCC also encouraged events to open participation to those from overseas.

“These events and activities are not only to celebrate Miri City Day’s 11th anniversary, but also to promote Miri as a tourist destination in the region,” said Lai.

He added that MCC reserves the right to reject events deemed inappropriate from being included in the calendar of events.

Approved events can use the Miri May Fest 2016 logo.

The deadline to submit events for inclusion is March 25.
