NSJA calls for financial and moral support to help local journalists excel

MIRI: The Northern Sarawak Journalists Association (NSJA) is appreciative of every support from the community including corporate bodies, in enabling the local journalists excel in their careers.

NSJA president Thng Joo Hua said as a non-profit making association, NSJA requires both moral and financial support from the public to carry out its activities.

“So far we are very fortunate to have strong support from the people, as well as from the private and public sectors.

“For example during our 41st anniversary celebration last year we received strong financial backing especially from two corporate leaders – Datuk James Ling and Datuk Hii King Chiong and we hoped that they and others will continue to support us,” said Thng.

He was commenting on NSJA’s Chinese New Year visits to various local dignitaries and corporate leaders over the past ten days.

Among those they visited were Assistant Minister of Communications Datuk Lee Kim Shin, mayor of Miri City Lawrence Lai, political leaders Datuk Sebastian Ting, Adam Yii, Bruce Chai and deputy executive chairman of Dayang Enterprise Holdings Berhad Datuk James Ling.

Thng added the visit was to show the association’s appreciation to them and to wish them the season’s greeting of Gong Xi Fa Cai, besides fostering closer rapport among the members and the public.

Meanwhile, among the activities organised by NSJA were sending a committee member to attend a journalism course in Kuching organised the Commonwealth Journalists Association, Kuching recently and a friendly bowling with Interhill Group recently.
