KUCHING: Malaysian Malay Vehicle Importers and Distributors Association (Pekema) Sarawak Branch members are urged to co-operate with their Chinese counterparts in facing current challenges in the automotive market.

Its deputy chairman Datuk Abang Ismail Abang Saufi said the Chinese who were very good in doing businesses should be emulated.

“We hope that through close co-operation, we can use the opportunity to pick up a tip or two from our Chinese friends. Sarawak is a good example of unity among the various races,” he said at a Chinese New Year celebration with the Chinese community hosted by Pekema Foundation on Friday night.

The event was held to foster inter-community ties and strengthen co-operation and networking among those in the automotive industry.

He added that the annual event had helped to enhance the harmonious ties between the various ethnic people  in the State.

Through the foundation, various corporate social responsibility programmes have been held to help the needy.

“We help everyone regardless of their race, colour and religion. For tonight’s event, we will also be giving small donations to three non-governmental organisations.”

The recipients are Sarawak Hun Nam Siang Tng, SJKC Chung Hua No.4 and St John Ambulance Sarawak, each receiving RM5,000.

Present were Pekema Sarawak chairman Datuk Seri Abang Khalid Abang Marzuki and wife Datin Seri Lily Johari.
