LAHAD DATU: The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) Lahad Datu has saved a dog which was found with its testicles tied with rubber bands, resulting in severe swelling and almost as large as a human fist.

The dog, named as ‘Bola’, was found hanging around Jalan Singgamata with his swollen testicles that looked like a black ball. It was immediately taken to the SPCA to get medical attention and has the swelling testicles surgically removed.

‘Bola’ is currently under medical treatment and resting. The medical fee is paid by public donations and ‘Bola’ will be sent to where he was found with his doggy gang once he is recovered.

According to SPCA Lahad Datu, it was suspected that someone might have tried to neuter, which is a worst way, or abuse Bola. Wrapping testicles with rubber bands to neuter dogs does not only has no medical basis and very cruel, it also could make the area become ulceration or even get poor dogs killed.

People should get the appropriate way to neuter or spay dogs and cats. These operations should be handled by qualified vets, not by using unverified means such as misusing rubber bands.

It is unimaginable how those poor animals go through months feeling the great pain from tied down area until the part finally get rotten, congested and swollen. Some lucky ones do not need to suffer till the end because they lose their lives. Such act is also considered abusing animals.

According to the Animal Welfare Act 2015 which gazetted lately in Malaysia, once found or plead guilty, animal abusers will be fined between RM20,000 to RM100,000 and/or jailed up to three years.

Anyone interested in adopting ‘Bola’ can contact SPCA.
