MIRI: Marudi voters must strive to give the state Barisan Nasional chairman and Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem a resounding mandate for his people-friendly leadership by fully supporting his choice of candidate for the constituency.

In rallying their support, Second Minister of Resource Planning and Environment Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said their mission should be to ensure the victory of the BN candidate.

“The most important consideration is the Chief Minister having a strong team by returning his chosen BN candidate in Marudi,” stressed the senior vice-president of PBB.

Awang Tengah, who is also Minister of Industrial Development, said this when asked on the message he gave during the closed-door Marudi election machinery seminar at the Civic Centre here yesterday.

Calling for the people to be united in rejecting the opposition, he said the paramount consideration is answering the chief minister’s call for a strong mandate in the next five years and continuation of his (Adenan’s) rural development projects and initiatives for Marudi.

He said the state government under Adenan had approved RM77.4 million for the upgrading of Marudi-Miri road, reduced ferry charge from RM15 to RM1 and implemented many water and electricity supply projects and other development projects for the rural people.

Meanwhile, Assistant Minister of Public Utilities (Water Supply) and Marudi assemblyman Datuk Sylvester Entri Muran disclosed that there was overwhelming response from the constituents to register themselves as BN election workers.

“We had expected 1,000 registered voters in Marudi to be registered as election machinery workers but more turned up and this is a good indication of their support for BN and our CM,” he said.

The seminar was a run-up to the state election for Entri, who has been the Marudi assemblyman since 1996, and his election machinery.

Adenan announced that Entri would be the BN candidate for Marudi at a ceremony to announce the ferry charge reduction at Kampung Ridan and a Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration in Marudi last year.

State Legislative Assembly Speaker and PBB permanent chairman Datuk Amar Mohd Asfia Awang Nassar and BN legal advisor Awang Bemee Ali Basah were among the speakers at the seminar.

Others were Teras deputy president Datuk Peter Nansian Ngusie (Tasik Biru assemblyman), treasurer-general Paulus Palu Gumbang (Batu Danau assemblyman), Ripin Lamat (Lambir assemblyman), Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail (Bukit Kota assemblyman) and PBB executive secretary Awang Bujang Awang Antek.
