KUCHING: Technology Park Malaysia Corporation Sdn Bhd (TPM) will hold a career talk on opportunities offered in the fields of science, technology and innovation for school students.

TPM corporate communication and stakeholder management senior manager Aniz Adura Abdul Majid will conduct the talk titled ‘A Career in Science and Technology’ from 2.30pm to 3.30pm tomorrow at the civic centre.

TPM president and chief executive officer Datuk Mohd Azman Shahidin said Malaysia needs to adopt the latest technologies and innovations to continuously build and sustain overall national growth towards attaining developed status by 2020.

This is in line with the need for Malaysia to harness skills and knowledge in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (Stem) across all sectors.

“The government’s efforts in promoting the fields of science, technology and innovation are inevitable for Malaysia to fulfil her ambition of achieving not only developed status, but also the need to build a knowledge-based economy that can help move the value chain towards being a sustainable high income nation,” he said in a statement.

He pointed out that Malaysia requires more scientists and technologists to reach the highest technological advancements for economic and societal well-being.

“We will be displaying face cut-out stands for pictures, puzzles (related to the respective STI careers), brain teasers and a slew of other activities aimed at creating and enhancing interest among Sarawakians on the subjects of science and technology. In addition, there will be a pledge wall specifically for students on STI,” he said.

As the agency to encourage the development of science, technology and innovation among Malaysians, he said TPM is committed to play its community service role in both urban and rural areas.

“We hope the communities of Sarawak, especially the children, will grab this opportunity to visit our booth to gain a better insight into the benefits of STI and the career prospects in the respective fields,” he said.

TPM, a Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation agency, is Malaysia’s pioneer and leading technology park, spanning 688 acres.

It has integrated infrastructure, facilities and support services to assist technopreneurs and entrepreneurs keen to commercialise their ideas in four industry clusters — ICT, Engineering, Biotechnology and Green Technology.
