KUCHING: Making the transition from a secondary school student to a pre-university student is exciting and thrilling, yet the journey on a brand new academic path can also be overwhelming at times.

A press statement issued from Kuala Lumpur said that deciding on the right pathway and the right institution is crucial. With the right programme, students can adjust into their tertiary education with ease, along with a firm grasp and foundation in their chosen field of study.

It is important for students to not only choose a field of study in which they are interested in and passionate about, but they should also choose an institution that provides a holistic and well-rounded education experience.

One of the best ways to discern which institution is best for a student is to speak with the faculty and its lecturers.

At the heart of the School of Pre-University Studies (SPUS) at KDU College is its dedicated and experienced lecturers. KDU is a pioneer for pre-university education in Malaysia having provided quality pre-university education for over 30 years. Students would benefit from the experience, dedication and wealth of knowledge from its SPUS teaching faculty.

SPUS not only educates and prepares students for their undergraduate studies, but also provides support, pastoral care and personalised attention to students so that they would be on the right track to gain entrance
to the best universities.

SPUS lecturers, some of whom have over 20 years of teaching experience, would strengthen students’ confidence and make them realise their true potential.

Class sizes for formal subjects are limited to 30 students – a commitment towards the provision of strong pastoral care. Pre-university students at SPUS also enjoy a strong student support system from dedicated lecturers.

At SPUS, students are encouraged to give verbal presentations and participate in group discussions to sharpen their thinking skills, language skills which build their confidence.

With lecturers facilitating discussions, the young adults are encouraged to share their inner thoughts. In class, they can comment and criticise without inhibition on a wide range of issues.

A holistic and well-rounded education should also include developing values in students that will help mould them into responsible members of society.

At SPUS, students also participate in various activities and co-curricular programmes that help them build leadership qualities, inter-personal skills, self-confidence and teamwork.

SPUS students’ academic success rates have increased steadily over the years. Its students regularly receive top subject awards from the Cambridge International Examination Board in the UK.

Students are also provided with excellent university placement services, and SPUS has been successful in preparing students for top universities all over the world.

KDU’s School of Pre-University Studies offers Foundation in Arts, Cambridge GCE A-Level (Science and Arts) and UNSW Foundation Studies (Commerce and Science).

Cambridge GCE A-Level is internationally recognised for entrance into undergraduate degree courses such as medicine, law and engineering. Since its commencement, students have continued to gain access into top universities such as Cambridge, Oxford, Manchester and London.

UNSW Foundation Studies which is offered only in KDU is one of Australia’s leading foundation courses and is the longest established foundation programme in Australia.
