KAPIT: Since assuming the post of chief minister two years ago, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem has made 50 achievements for the people in Sarawak.

Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi told this to community leaders attending the one-day seminar for community leaders from this division, which was held at the civic centre here on Saturday.

“All these 50-point achievements are people-orientated matters, meaning many of them actually lessen the burden of the ‘rakyat’ (people); for instance, lowering electricity tariff. Others include declaring local council services as Goods and Sevices Tax (GST)-free, abolition of tolls, lowering of ferry fares. These things are good for the rakyat. It means Chief Minister Adenan is ever ready to address issues that concern the welfare of the people,” Nanta told the participants, numbering about 520, from here, Song, Belaga and Bukit Mabong districts.

“If you look at the 50 points, they are for the good of the state. For instance, the demand for 20 per cent royalty from Petronas. Although at the moment it hasn’t been achieved yet, Petronas is already opening up to us in some other ways. The chief minister is bold enough to approach Petronas. This is an example of his bravery and boldness to champion the cause of Sarawak,” pointed out Nanta.

Apart from that, he said Adenan also addressed some issues on Native Customary Rights (NCR) land.

“He even told Umno not to come to Sarawak because we know how to govern our own state. On the ratio of teachers, very soon we will have 90 per cent local teachers and 10 per cent Peninsular Malaysians.

“He also pushed for the Pan Borneo Highway project. The Kapit/Song/Kanowit road is another achievement to connect the interior areas to towns. The number of households with electricity and treated water supply is increasing,” Nanta, who was one of the facilitators at the seminar, added.

Land Development Minister Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Masing officiated at the opening ceremony.

Political secretaries to the chief minister Wilson Nyabong Ijang, Jefferson Jamit Unyat and Tengku Geruna, Kapit Resident Joseph Belayong, Kapit District officer Elvis Didit and Bukit Mabong District officer Douglas Pungga also attended the seminar.
