KOTA KINABALU: A check with Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) yesterday revealed no unusual increase in patients afflicted with heat wave related illnesses in view of the current El Nino weather phenomenon.

QEH director, Dr. Heric Corray, said there were no such cases admitted to the hospital in his reply via WhatsApp yesterday.

Similarly, private medical practitioner, Dr. Wah Hai Sit, also reported no unusual increase in the number of patients coming to the clinic for heatstroke or related illnesses.

Dr. Wah, who has been practicing for 40 years, said the symptoms of heatstroke include high fever, muscle cramp and dehydration.

To avoid falling sick during the prevailing heat wave, he advised the public to avoid outdoor activities and drink more water. If outdoor activity is unavoidable, Dr. Wah’s advice is to use a sunblock, shade oneself from the sun and consume more water.
