KOTA KINABALU: All Umno divisions in Sabah will adopt a declaration to utterly reject the People’s Declaration initiated by former Prime Minister Tun Mahathir Mohamed and the opposition calling on current Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak to step down, said Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Yahya Hussin.

Yahya, who is also Sabah Umno liaison secretary, said many of the divisions had adopted the declaration during their recent divisional meetings while others would do so in due time.

“So far, 153 divisions have made the declaration across the country. In Sabah, we all will do it,” he told reporters after chairing the Putatan divisional meeting at Wisma Pertanian here yesterday.

Earlier, he announced that the division had agreed in the meeting to reject Mahathir’s People Declaration to demand for Najib’s resignation as it was undemocratic.

He said Putatan Umno had also urged for the immediate removal from the party of Umno members found associating themselves with the People’s Declaration or any other similar agendas.

“We wish to express that we fully support the leadership of Datuk Seri Najib Razak as Umno president and Prime Minister of Malaysia.

“We also unanimously and fully support the leadership of Datuk Seri Musa Aman as the Sabah Umno liaison chairman and Chief Minister of Sabah,” he said, reading out from a one-page declaration approved during the meeting.

Meanwhile, he said the meeting was held to discuss preparation for the division’s delegates meeting in accordance with the directive from Umno secretary general for all divisions to have their meetings between Aug 1 and Sep 15.

He said it was agreed that the division’s Pemuda, Wanita and Puteri wings would hold their meetings from Aug 13 to 14, while the Putatan Umno delegates meeting would be held on Aug 20 at the Putatan District Office Hall in Pasir Putih.

Also discussed were Putatan Umno’s preparation for the party’s 70th anniversary celebration, where the division will hold various activities, including traditional sports such as sepak takraw.
