KOTA KINABALU: A police corporal sustained bodily injuries after he was knocked by a Proton Waja car driven by two criminal suspects at Lorong Angsa 10, Taman Mutiara in Luyang here yesterday morning.

The 34-year-old victim, who is attached to the Kota Kinabalu Police Contingent (IPD KK), sustained injuries on his hand, body and leg but is reported to be in stable condition at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital II.

Acting city police chief Superintendent Rosdi Mat Jusoh said the incident happened when the police personnel and a colleague were patrolling the area at around 3 am yesterday.

“While patrolling the area, the police personnel spotted two men acting suspiciously inside a Proton Waja car that was parked in the area.

“As they were inspecting the vehicle, one of the suspects reversed the car and knocked one of the police personnel to the ground.

“To prevent the car from running over them, the second policeman immediately drew out his pistol and fired two shots at the car tyre but the suspects managed to speed away from the scene,” he said yesterday.

Rosdi said a manhunt for the two suspects, in their 40s, had been launched by the police and the case would be investigated under Section 322 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt.

He urged anyone with information to come forward to assist police investigation.
