Housewife fined for possessing stolen milk powder, drinks

KOTA KINABALU: A housewife was fined RM1,000, in default, seven months in jail by the Magistrate’s Court here yesterday for possessing stolen milk powder and drinks.

Magistrate Cindy Mc Juce Balitus imposed the fine on Meley Ali, 39, after she pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 411 of the Penal Code which is punishable by a maximum jail of five years or a fine or both, upon conviction.

The mother of eight admitted to having the stolen items, all valued at RM895.61, at a shop in Jalan Kobusak, Penampang on July 28, 2015.

Counsel Farazwin Haxdy represented the accused.

In a separate case, three men were each fined by the Traffic Court here for separate charges of driving their vehicles under the influence of alcohol.

Two of the accused received RM1,200 fine each and RM1,500 for another accused after they pleaded guilty to each of their charges under Section 45A (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

The charge carries a maximum fine of RM6,000 or with a jail term of up to 12 months, upon conviction.

The court also ordered the accused, who were arrested during separate operations at Jalan Coastal between Feb 7 and 27, to be given four months’ jail each if they failed to pay their fines.
