KAPIT: The rural people have now realised that opposition parties cannot bring them development and are therefore turning to the Barisan Nasional who could bring in the goodies.

Saying this was a political secretary to the chief minister Jefferson Jamit Unyat who believed that the rural people were turning to the BN because they wanted development.

“Just like their urban counterparts, they want better infrastructure and amenities. Many of their headmen have also expressed regret for supporting independent candidate in the past and as a result they received no development projects in the past five years,” he said during a dialogue session at Rh Osman Minggan in Bukit Goram during a recent visit. The longhouse is situated at the headwater of Sungai Kapit.

In the last state election, the Pelagus seat was won by an independent candidate George Lagong who defeated the BN- PRS candidate Stanley Nyitar with majority of over 3,000 votes.

Although Lagong is BN-friendly, the people do not get a share of minor rural project (MRP) fund or any development at all in all these years.

“As a political secretary I have travelled to every corner of the new seat of Bukit Goram where the people have expressed their desire to vote BN in the coming state election. They don’t want to be lagging behind anymore because they’ve realised that only BN representatives can deliver.”

Touching on the 32-door new longhouse (Rumah Minggan), Jamit said the government would assist them to build the longhouse.

TR Osman Minggan, Penghulu Enggin, former Kemas supervisor Ambrose Abong, Sadia chairman (Kapit branch) Edward Manggah, Jasa officer Mohd Matan Yok, TR Pasang Tuba and TR Agan Minggat were among those who came to the dialogue session.
