SIBU: Bawang Assan assemblyman Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh has urged his constituents to give him five more years to bring to fruition what he has promised them.

“I promise I will implement all the unfinished work within the next five years if I am re-elected in this area,” he told a meet-the-people session at Rumah Joseph Jarrau, Tanjung Bekakap near here on Sunday night.

Wong, who is Second Finance Minister and Minister of Local Government and Community Development, thanked all the residents in Tanjung Bekakap for their support of the Barisan Nasional (BN) government during the last state election.

On the development projects in Tanjung Bekakap last year, road and basic amenity projects worth RM1.1 million had been implemented.

He said this year, a total of RM540,000 had been allocated through the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) for development in the area.

“This allocation does not include allocations for community and welfare activities for the Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) of the longhouse.

“Most of the people in Tanjung Bekakap including Rumah Joseph Jarrau are able to enjoy the road and basic facilities and better quality of life,” Wong, who is United People’s Party (UPP) president, noted.

Also present at the function were political secretaries to the chief minister Suzanne Lee and Andrew Shilling Bangit, Sibu/Mukah Special Affairs Department (Jasa) officer Awang Julaihi Awang Ali Borhan, Temenggong Stanley Geramong, Pemanca James Semilan, Penghulu Jeffery Sut and Penghulu Richard Ampi.
