KUCHING: A total of 490 people received their 1Malaysia People’s Aid (BR1M) under this year’s Phase I for Bengoh constituency at a ceremony held in Siburan community hall yesterday.

The group comprises 211 people receiving the RM400 vouchers, 277 receiving RM250 vouchers and two receiving RM200 vouchers.

Bank Simpanan Nasional (BSN) counters were also available for the recipients to cash in their vouchers.

Assistant Minister of Public Health Datuk Dr Jerip Susil, who officiated at the event, said the government was taking various initiatives to lessen the burden of the people, particularly those in the lower income bracket due to the higher cost of living.

“BR1M is among these initiatives,” he said.

On the part of the state government, Dr Jerip — who is Bengoh assemblyman — said Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem had introduced and implemented several policies to benefit the people.

“The state government under the leadership of Datuk Patinggi Adenan, who is people-centric, has introduced and implemented at least 50 policies for the people to enjoy. Among the policies were abolishing the tolls and reducing electricity tariffs,” he explained, adding that Adenan had also assured the people that the Pan Borneo Highway would be toll-free.

Dr Jerip said with such people-centric policies, Adenan ought to be supported so that he could introduce more policies to help the people.

He also said that efforts were being made to pay out relief allowance for the recent flood victims in Tarat and Mambong constituencies, as he urged the victims to remain patient.

Dr Jerip also urged village chiefs to identify and help register fellow villagers who were eligible welfare aid to ensure that those deserving of assistance would not be sidelined.

State administrative officers (SAOs) for Siburan and Padawan sub-districts, Ranum Bari and Rangen Jamang, were among those present at the presentation.
