BANJARMASIN, South Kalimantan: The municipal government now put Banjarmasin on alert on bird flu, after many other areas in the province affected by the infectious disease, AntaranewsKalsel reported.

“For several days we have scale up alertness on bird flu outbreaks. We hope the virus not to enter to our area,” said Head of Agriculture and Fisheries Agency Doyo Pudjadi in Banjarmasin on Sunday.

The agency has been spraying disinfectant against a number of poultry shelters, especially duck species.

“There are some ducks cages in this city, such as in the area of ​​Mantuil, South Banjarmasin, we have done the spraying,” he admitted.

He also asked areas which are not poultry farming to be vigilant against the entry of poultry products.

Doyo said any poultry imported into abattoirs (RPH) at Jalan Basirih, South Banjarmasin, to be checked health before the market, since almost 50 thousand poultries per day entering the area.

“Especially after it was reported that in North Hulu Sungai (HSU) a lot of poultries suspected of being infected with bird flu virus, because of sudden death,” he said.

The case of viruses that can spread to humans, said Doyo, will be discussed in a joint meeting with the entire local government implemented by the provincial government.

“Tomorrow we will attend the event, hopefully there is a real policy of the province to solve it together,” he said.
