LIMBANG: Multi-storey government complexes for Limbang and Lawas have been proposed to the government for greater efficiency in serving the people in the two districts.

Second Minister of Resource Planning and Environment Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said these would form another landmark in the respective districts which would continue to develop rapidly with the support of the people.

He said this at the closing ceremony of Sejiwa Senada programme at the stadium here Sunday evening which was attended by about 15,000 people.

Both districts have huge potential for economic development in collaboration with Brunei due to their strategic location in BIMP-EAGA, with tourism, halal livestock products and other sectors to be developed under the cluster development.

The completion of the Pan Borneo Highway project would also open up more opportunities for cross border trade and economic activities.

Apart from Buda Caves and Mt Murud in the division, Limbang and Lawas’ strategic location near Brunei Bay and next door to Labuan and Sabah also provided opportunity for collaboration with Brunei to host international events.

“Brunei Bay can be the venue for international water sports, a potential tourism products involving Sarawak, Brunei and Sabah,” he said.

On development, he said the launch of the fiberisation of telecommunication infrastructure in Limbang and Lawas was in tandem with the state

government’s continuous efforts in providing essential infrastructure and facilities in meeting the demand of the people.

Awang Tengah also urged the people to stand firmly behind the Barisan Nasional in the coming state election to continue the transformation agenda in the division.

“We have turned Lawas and Limbang from isolated economic backwaters into vibrant districts with the people’s support of

the BN. This must continue to see more changes here under the leadership of Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem,” he said.

On the Sejiwa Senada programme, he said it was a platform to foster better understanding of the functions and achievements of the state government where the people would be better informed and not be swayed by unsubstantiated allegations by the opposition against the government.

The programme registered the highest number of e-contest participants at 14,531, which offered a Perodua Axia car as the grand prize of the lucky draw and the highest showcase sales at RM1.6 million from the 171,000 visitors over the three days.

DUN Speakar Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar, Datuk Dayang Morliah Datuk Awang Daud, Limbang MP Hasbi Habibollah, Bukit Kota assemblyman Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail, Batu Danau assemblyman Paulus Palu Gumbang, Limbang Resident Datu Maria Hasman, Limbang District Officer Hamdiah Bakir and her Lawas counterpart Hussaini Hakim were among those present.
