Rainy weather pushes up veggie prices

SIBU: Prices of greens here have gone up slightly – no thanks to the current wet weather.

Ministry of Domestic Trade, Co-operatives and Consumerism (MDTCC) Sibu branch chief Kasim Mana said the increase was about 50 sen per kilogramme for some vegetables.

Dearer vegetables include chillies, brinjal, lady fingers, broccoli and cabbage.

“We are doing daily monitoring to keep tab of the situation. If there is any element of profiteering, action can be taken under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011,” Kasim said yesterday.

He urged vendors to display price tags, or risk being compounded up to RM50,000.
