LAWAS: PBB Youth’s mission this state election is to secure a convincing victory for Barisan Nasional (BN) in all the 81 seats contested to give a strong mandate for party president and Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem to continue leading the state.

PBB senior vice-president and Second Minister of Resource Planning and Environment Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan gave this pledge when speaking at the closing ceremony of the state-wide PBB Youth Armada tour at the amphitheatre here on Wednesday night.

The tour started in Kuching on April 2 with 42 participants covering all the respective zones from the south to the north of the state to get the PBB Youth election machinery in all the branches ready for the polls.

Awang Tengah reminded BN Youth to make an all-out concerted effort to uphold the struggle of PBB and party president who has made it his mission to safeguard Sarawak’s rights and autonomy in line with the Malaysia Agreement 1963 besides caring for the people’s welfare.

“Look around you and see what you are enjoying and benefitting from. It is a result of the people being with the BN government and not the opposition. This should continue to be our party’s struggle – a better future for the people and the state, “ he said.

He pointed out that both the state and federal governments had taken steps to ease the burden of the people caused by higher cost of living due to the global oil price drop.

“Mitigating this impact, the federal government has introduced BR1M, fishermen living allowance and other forms of assistance while our chief minister has reduced power tariffs, abolished quit rent for land less than 100 acres, slashed ferry service charge to RM1 and lowered assessment rates,” he said.

He also reminded that the 50 principles and policies introduced by the chief minister were for the wellbeing of the people of Sarawak.

“What this all means, despite our different races, religions and cultural background, we are all Sarawakians and Malaysians where no one is marginalised or left behind,” he said.

He called on PBB Youth Armada to counter the opposition’s propaganda of demonising BN leaders and scaring the people as they had run out of political issues ranging from NCR, social, state rights and education which had already been addressed by the chief minister.

On Bukit Sari, he lamented that Chinese support for BN in the last general election slipped to only 65 per cent from over 90 per cent previously.

Hence, he called on all quarters to work together and ensure a handsome victory for all BN candidates, saying the coming state election is about electing the next government for a better future.

“It is serious business and not about settling personal or petty scores against someone you may not like,” he said.

On the parties – PKR, DAP, PAS and Amanah – he said they were all Peninsular Malaysia-based parties which do not know the dreams and aspirations of Sarawakians.

Earlier on, PBB deputy Youth leader Ripin Lamat, who is Lambir assemblyman, said the Youth Armada was prepared for the election.

“We are ready to battle as PBB Youth is not about merely hanging banners or posters but is ready to take the fight to the opposition,” he said.

A crowd of 5,000 turned up for the closing ceremony which also featured recording artistes Salim and Bob AF.

Also present were Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Office Datuk Mohd Naroden Majais, Bukit Kota assemblyman Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail and Batu Danau assemblyman Paulus Palu Gumbang.
