GEORGE TOWN:  The National Security Council (MKN) has started its nationwide tour to explain and clarify to the people on the MKN bill which was approved by the Dewan Rakyat in December.

MKN secretary Datuk Seri Alias Ahmad said MKN also explained the bill to the public using the print and electronic media and dialogue sessions.

“We have actually gone down to several states since last month to prime government agencies on the bill so they too can brief the public,” he told Bernama  yesterday.

The 2015 MKN Bill which provided 15 special powers in the setting up of MKN and security forces to control and coordinate operations related to security had been approved by the Dewan Rakyat on Dec 3 and by Dewan Negara on Dec 22.

Alias said the bill was aimed at establishing the position of MKN and clarifying on the area of jurisdiction and role of the committee to the people so it was better understood.

Among others, he said the MKN law could be used to declare an area in which a small security problem had occurred and required prompt action, as a security area, and not an emergency area. – Bernama
