BINTULU: Social media has changed the people’s culture in significant ways and youths have been advised to keep themselves protected from the negative effects.

Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Jepak chairman Datuk Talib Zulpilip said the younger generation should be more careful while using the social media to avoid from being used by irresponsible parties.

This is because there is concern that social media can lead to negative behaviour in younger people as they are vulnerable at this period of their lives.

As social media expands and its accessibility grows society must learn to adapt as well.

He said any information posted on social media like Facebook needs to be verified first just like any other news.

The younger generation is exposed to such negative elements and some of them are willing to tarnish the image of the country and fight among themselves, he noted

“This is not right and the youths need to be more aware of such threat. The young people is our hope because those who are educated and living in a good cultural environment will be useful towards nation building,” said Talib.

Talib said this while officiating at the ‘Minggu Belia & Etnik Kenyalang Bintulu 2016’ programme organised by Persatuan Kebangsaan Melayu Sarawak (PKMS) and Pertubuhan Gabungan Barisan Usahawan Sarawak (Perbaru) at Bintulu Esplanade last Sunday night.

He pointed out that youths who are involved in healthy activities will make up a healthy society.

Among those present were PKMS Jepak branch chairman Junaidi Bujang and Perbaru secretary-general Benneth Sigat who represented his chairman Fabian Gan.
