KUCHING: Police may have broken up a syndicate with the arrest of four suspects and two lost pick-ups and a motorcycle recovered during a raid on a construction site at Taman

Moyan Utama in Batu Kawah yesterday.

State Crime Investigation Department chief SAC Dev Kumar said the four suspects aged between 14 to 40, were caught asleep in a house during the operation carried out around 12.30am.

He said the operation by Branch D4 of Police Contingent headquarters was led by ASP Nazrul Hisyam after a tip-off.

The four suspects are believed to have operated as a syndicate active in vehicle theft in Kuching, Padawan, Bau and Kota Samarahan and transporting the stolen vehicles to Indonesia.

Vehicles recovered include a Ford Ranger lost in Jalan Tun Jugah, a Mazda lost in Kampung Sungai Pinang and a Honda Wave motorcycle reported missing from a church here.

SAC Dev also disclosed that police seized a Proton Iswara believed to belong to one of the suspects.

“Through investigations, we found several theft tools which they use to steal vehicles in the Iswara boot,” he said in a press statement.

He added that the four suspects were still in remand to facilitate investigations and that they have no past crime records.

Dev said he hoped to solve more vehicle theft cases following the arrest of the four suspects.
