Hii-&-PauKUCHING: State BN chairman Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem has introduced two new faces as candidates for the coming state election – Datuk Pau Chiong Ung (for Tanjung Datu) and Dato Hii King Chiong (for Pujut).

Pau, 64, the SPDP Kidurong division chairman, will be fielded as SUPP candidate while Hii will be fielded as direct BN candidate.

When announcing this a press conference yesterday afternoon, Adenan said Pau would be resigning from SPDP to join SUPP.

“He is resigning from SPDP to join SUPP,” he revealed.

Pau was not present when the announcement was made.

When contacted after the press conference, Pau said he was outstation and would need time to adjust to the idea of standing as a candidate for Tanjung Batu.

“I will be resigning today from SPDP. I have informed my president Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing and (secretary general) Anthony Nogeh,” he told The Borneo Post.

He said he was not surprised to be asked to resign to stand as direct BN candidate but was surprised to find out that he would be contesting as SUPP candidate.

However, he said he would follow the instruction from Adenan who had talked to him on several occasions to contest in Tanjung Batu for BN.

Meanwhile, Hii, who is a businessman like Pau, said he had done “quite a lot” for Miri where Senadin, Pujut and Piasau state seats are situated.

“Initially, they (the party) wanted to put me in Piasau, but later to Pujut. As I have served all three areas, I have no problem to move from Piasau to Pujut.

“I am very confident because I have moved on the ground for many years already. I believe the people will give me a chance,” said Hii.
