BACHOK: Former Malaysian ambassador to the United States, Datuk Dr Awang Adek Hussin has expressed a desire to return to active politics.

“I will go back to meet with the people at grassroots level and offer my  services to them,” he told reporters at a gathering with local leaders at his home in Kampung Perupuk here, yesterday.

Awang Adek received credentials as the Malaysian Ambassador to the US from Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah on March 31, 2014 and completed his duty on April 7, 2016.

He served as Deputy Minister of Finance for seven years since 2006 under two prime ministers, Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi and Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

Throughout his service as the ambassador, Awang Adek remained as Bachok Umno division chief.

Commenting on speculation that he is among candidates for the post of Governor of Bank Negara Malaysia, Awang Adek said he leave the matter to the country’s leadership. — Bernama
