KUCHING: United People’s Party (UPP) Batu Kawa branch chairman Liu Thian Leong must either resign from the party or has his membership terminated if he contests as an independent in the coming State election.

Secretary-general George Lo said it was reported in the media that Liu might stand as a candidate in the state election.

“UPP Central hereby states that it will not field Liu as a candidate in the election.  If Liu intends to stand, he must either resign from the party or his membership will be terminated,” Lo said.

Liu was earlier touted by UPP as a winnable candidate for Batu Kawa constituency. However, Chief Minister and state BN chairman Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem has picked Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) president Senator Datuk Dr Sim Kian Hui as the BN candidate in the area.
