MARUDI: Many people have expressed their relief at the announcement that Datu Dr Penguang Manggil will be the BN-SPDP candidate for Marudi this state election.

PBB Kampung Pemindahan chairman Mohd Bujang Abdul Majeed said he was happy when he learned of the announcement and pledged that he would give Penguang his fullest support.

“I know Datu Dr Penguang can bring more development to Marudi as he has a wide experience and is well-liked by the people of Marudi, including the Chinese and Malays besides the Iban community,” he said.

In expressing his support for Penguang, 44-year-old electrician Alex Khoo said the Chinese community was happy when they knew that Penguang had been confirmed as the BN candidate for Marudi.

“We closed our shops for three hours to show our strong support for Datu Dr Penguang when the chief minister came here. If any other candidate were to stand here in the coming election for sure we Chinese don’t vote for him. Not only that but we will not go down to the polling station to vote,” he stressed.

Meanwhile, four voters – Hamid Hassan (66) from Kampung Narum, Mohd Kassim (52) from Kampung Dagang, Mohd Yusof Basree (60) and Mohd Rahman (59) both from Kampung Permindahan said they would give their undivided support to Penguang.

“I not only support Datu Penguang but followed his group to Bakong,” said Mohd Kassim.
