KUCHING: The spectacular Sejiwa Senada programme held at 10 different locations across Sarawak since Jan 8 is hailed a huge success after attracting more than 1.5 million visitors.

Tourism Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg said more than 50,000 people were estimated at the grand finale of the programme held at Metrocity Matang yesterday.

The programmes have been held in Miri, Sibu, Sarikei, Saratok, Kapit, Mukah, Limbang, Sri Aman and Samarahan.

He expressed appreciation and gratitude to all those involved in organising the programmes especially the civil service and enforcement and uniformed bodies for the smooth implementation of the programme.

“The civil service led by State Secretary Datuk Amar Tan Sri Morshidi Ghani does an outstanding job especially in the implementation of government policies.

“I am sure with the presence of good government machinery, we can reach out to the people more and transform Sarawak into a model state in Malaysia,” he said.

Abang Johari said Kuching which had been declared a Unity City and the uniqueness of Sarawakians made this possible.

“It is our culture that allows the people in this diverse community to live in harmony and peace under one roof. This spirit of unity must continue to be upheld and preserved,” he added.

Abang Johari, who is also Housing Minister, also called on the people to give their full support to Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem so he could serve for five years to transform Sarawak into a better place for all.

“Let’s us rally behind Tok Nan (Adenan) because even Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi acknowledges that he (Adenan) is a unique leader who does not only lead and fight for the people but entertains them as well,” he said.

He hoped the people of Sarawak would move with ‘one beat and one rhythm’ to spur and develop Sarawak under Adenan’s leadership.

The programme also saw the presentation of letters of appointment to headmen in Kuching Division, donations as part of corporate social responsibility to charitable bodies and organisations and the presentation of Bumiputera communal reserve land titles under Section 6 of the State Land Code to landowners in Kuching Division.
