KOTA SAMARAHAN: A local soldier perished in an early morning road accident yesterday after his vehicle was involved in a head-on collision with a lorry laden with fresh fruit bunches.
The deceased in the 5.30am crash along Jalan Suri in Asajaya was identified by police as 27-year-old Sapree Jaiee.
The serviceman was making his way towards Kampung Rangawan in Asajaya when his Toyota Avanza crashed into the lorry, which was heading in the opposite direction towards Kuching.
Sapree was pinned inside the wrecked vehicle and personnel from the state Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) took about 25 minutes to extricate him following their arrival at 6.17am.
Medical personnel who checked the victim’s vital signs pronounced him dead at the scene.
The body was then transported to the Sarawak General Hospital and police are investigating the crash under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
