Women as agents of transformation

KANOWIT: Womenfolk here and  nearby areas can act as the national welfare transformation agents in their respective communities through the 1Malaysia Perwani Community.

Minister for Women, Family and Community Development Datuk Rohani Abdul Karim said through 1M Perwani Community they could help channel inputs and feedback from the grassroots.

“We, at the Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development will act accordingly once we received the inputs and feedback from the recipients,” she said.

She was speaking at the ‘Satu Suara Anda Tanggungjawab Utama’ programme at Kanowit Fort Emma Townsquare last Friday.

Rohani added the 1Malaysia Perwani was an initiative under the National Blue Ocean Strategy to improve the welfare of women community.

She explained that the 1Malaysia Perwani community was divided into small groups of between 10 and 20 women to help women in education, business and also crime prevention.

“As a mover of various activities, the 1Malaysia Perwani Community helps to further promote healthcare, family welfare, skills training, entrepreneurship and tuition.

“They can become the eyes and ears of the government in combating crimes and threats to national security,” she added.

The 1Malaysia Perwani community also aims to empower women and bring them into mainstream development and transformation.

“Since the 1Malaysia Perwani community was launched on 17 March 2013, it now has 12,878 groups with a total membership of 169,248.

“As for Sarawak, there are 987 groups of 1M Perwani community with a total of 14,849 members.”
