LUNDU: The state Road Transport Department (JPJ) will continue to conduct its ‘One Community, One JPJ’ (SKSJ) project which has allowed around 10,600 rural folk throughout the state to obtain the motorcycle probationary driving licence (P) ever since it was established in 2009.

According to JPJ Sarawak public communications officer Rogie Sani, this year’s programme was first held in Limbang in January which attracted the participation of approximately 900 people.

In Tanjung Datu constituency, the programme which ended here yesterday attracted around 1,017 participants.

“We plan to organise the SKSJ programme in four more locations across the state; namely in Sibu, Sri Aman, Betong and Bau district in Kuching,” he said when met after the closing ceremony of SKSJ Tanjung Datu programme which was officiated by Natural Resources and Environment Minister Dato Sri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, who represented Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem.

He pointed out that the programme aimed to help rural folk aged 16 and above to obtain the motorcycle probationary driving licence.

“This programme provides exposure to the participants in terms of traffic law and road regulations as well as techniques on riding motorcycles competently and efficiently,” he said, adding that the programme also aimed to foster closer ties between the government and the community.

Participants of the SKSJ programme are only required to pay RM200 to obtain their licence.

Meanwhile, Adenan in his speech read by Wan Junaidi commended JPJ for its commitment to provide efficient and quality service to the people.

“JPJ has taken various efforts to improve its quality of service so that customers get the best and are comfortable when dealing with JPJ,” he remarked.

He hoped to see road users in the state assist enforcement officers in their efforts to reduce road accidents.

Also present at the ceremony were Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Abdul Aziz Kaprawi and JPJ Sarawak director Ibrahim Othman.
