KUCHING: All 13 candidates of Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) will go all out in the coming 12 days of campaigning to win this election.

Party president Senator Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian congratulated all the candidates for their successful nominations to contest under the BN ticket.

“It is important for us to go all out to win. Forget about anything else but winning,” he told a press conference at SUPP headquarters here yesterday.

Dr Sim, who is contesting in Batu Kawah, said candidates in the southern region would be ready to meet the press at the party’s headquarters at 2pm on a daily basis until polling day.

The rest of the candidates are Peter Pau for Padungan, Milton Foo (Pending), Sih Hua Tong (Batu Lintang), Wilfred Yap (Kota Sentosa) and Lo Khere Chiang (Batu Kitang).

“This is the time everybody works as a team – Team Adenan.”

Dr Sim said the party would launch its manifesto tomorrow (April 27) while BN’s manifesto was expected to be launched today (April 26).

Dr Sim, who will be taking on DAP’s Christina Chiew and Independent Liu Thian Leong, said BN would continue to rule Sarawak after this election.

He said BN already won two seats uncontested on nomination day – Bukit Kota and Bukit Sari.

As such, he called on the Chinese community to vote for BN candidates lest they would be ‘outside the government’ for another five years.

Dr Sim said it was unhealthy for the Chinese to stay outside the government while the Bumiputeras were all inside the government.

“Who is going to speak up and fight for the Chinese inside the government? Who is going to solve problems inside the government? We do not just want elected representatives who talk about issues and not deliver anything.”

On the three-cornered fight in Batu Kawah, he said he respected every candidate who tried to sell ideas and talked about what to do for the people.

He was however quick to point out that any candidates who stood as independents were treated as the opposition.

“There is no such thing as pro BN independent candidate. BN has stated clearly that independent candidates will not be admitted into BN.”

When prompted for his view on Batu Kitang, a new seat that will see a five-cornered fight, Dr Sim said that Lo should not take the battle lightly.

“My advice is to take it seriously. We want voters to choose the best candidate and not one seeing it as a part-time job.”

Also with him at the conference were Pau and Foo.
